11 Oct 2017

More investments and cooperation in tourism were at the center of talks between Greek Tourism Minister Elena Kountoura and Silk Road Chamber of International Commerce (SRCIC) Chairman Jianzhong Lu this week.

The two officials, who met on the sidelines of the Economist Events EU-Eurasia-China Business summit held in Athens this week, discussed the areas in which the two entities could cooperate. Lu expressed interest in working with the Greek tourism ministry to tap into the vast array of tourism resources through the promotion of actions and projects aimed at the development of cultural tourism.

Minister Kountoura referred to the attractiveness of Greece as a global destination for 365 days a year tourism, as well as to the opportunities the country presents for new tourism infrastructure investments, especially in marinas and sea tourism.

Kountoura and Lu also explored the potential for further partnerships and synergies with the involvement of tourism stakeholders in both countries towards the organization of high-level business trips focusing on investment opportunities.

"Building bridges from East to West is our common mission. People-to-people understanding is the foundation. SRCIC hopes to engage more international organizations and business elites in the Belt and Road construction," Lu said during the summit.
