“Cooperation and Development Conference of jointly establishing the ‘Belt and Road’ mechanism and platforms” in Slovakia

“Private sector is the source of energy for the rise of the Silk Road. Businesses are the main body of the ‘Belt and Road Initiative’.” Silk Road Chamber of International Commerce (SRCIC) bridges businesses of all countries to communicate, cooperate and participate in global governance.” On 24 October, SRCIC held its “Cooperation and Development Conference of jointly establishing the ‘Belt and Road’ mechanism and platforms” in Bratislava, Slovakia, a central European country rotated as the current European Union Presidency. It presented the business community of Slovakia with the cooperation mechanism and platforms established by SRCIC as well as international cooperation projects including eSilkroad and Silk Road International Development Fund. Development benefits of the “Belt and Road Initiative” was well shared.

Mr. Lu Jianzhong, Chairman of SRCIC, and Mr. Peter Mihok, Chairman of World Chamber Federations, signed a strategic cooperation agreement for deepening cooperation under the framework of the “Belt and Road Initiative”. Both parties agreed to be a member of each other’s organization and would strengthen cooperation over the seven bodies jointly initiated by SRCIC members including eSilkroad and Silk Road Trade Expo Park, etc.

Mr. Lu Jianzhong, Chairman of SRCIC, pointed out that central eastern Europe is the foothold of the “Belt and Road” in Europe. Slovakia, situating in central Europe, enjoys extensive accessibility, bridges the east and west of the European market and opens the gateway to the Balkan region. Its economy grows steadily in recent years and has great development potential. Slovak government also adopts a series of measures to introduce foreign revenue and improve the investment climate including reducing tax, increasing allowance and improving laws and regulations.

Mr. Peter Mihok, Chairman of World Chamber Federations and President of the Slovak Chamber of Commerce and Industry said, “Slovakia is part of the history of the Silk Road and SRCIC is now building a new platform for all. I hope that businesses, not only from Slovakia but all countries along the Silk Road, would join SRCIC and work together to drive the development and prosperity of the Silk Road.”

 

During the roadshow, Mr. Peter Pellegrini, Deputy Prime Premier of the Slovak Republic as well as Mr. Peter Kazimir, Minister of Finance of the Slovak Republic received Mr. Lu separately.

Mr. Pellegrini spoke highly of the “Belt and Road” vision and initiative of China. He hoped that SRCIC and the business community of Slovakia could strengthen communication and deepen cooperation with each other and bring their relations to a new level.

Mr. Kazimir showed support to set up a sub-fund of Silk Road International Development Fund in Slovakia and hoped that SRCIC and chambers and businesses of Slovakia could work closer to facilitate the development of commerce and trade between Slovakia and China.
